Sweet, featuring original guitarist Andy Scott, will release their new single Everything (2021) on October 15th. The single will be available via iTunes/Amazon/Spotify/Apple Music and all the usual platforms and will also be supported with a music video via the Sweet’s official YouTube Channel.

Stream and download the single from https://bfan.link/everything-2021.

Sweet founding member and guitarist, Andy Scott said, “During the rehearsals for Sweet’s forthcoming Hellraiser UK tour in November and December 2021, we were trying out various songs from our back catalogue that could be added to the set list. As soon as I heard Paul Manzi and Lee Small’s vocals on the song Everything, I knew that we needed to get it down and record it as our new single.”

Sweet (Left to Right) - Lee Small (bass, vocals), Bruce Bisland (drums, vocals), Paul Manzi (lead vocals),
Andy Scott (lead guitar, vocals), Steve Mann (guitar, keyboards)

The song Everything (2021) is a total new recording. It was original featured on the album Sweetlife released back in 2002. “I think the new version is a far superior production,” says Scott. “It’s much closer to how I envisaged it when I co-wrote the song back in the day.”

Sweet embark on their 16-date UK Hellraiser tour November 25th. Special guest on all shows is Limehouse Lizzy. Tickets are available from www.thegigcartel.com. This is the Sweet’s first major outing since restrictions were eased due to the global pandemic.

Brown Acid trippin'

The forthcoming latest edition of the popular compilation series of long-lost vintage 60s-70s proto-metal and stoner rock singles, Brown Acid: The Thirteenth Trip, is set for release on October 31st, 2021. The series is curated by L.A. label RidingEasy Records and retailer/label Permanent Records.

About Brown Acid: The Thirteenth Trip:
Lucky Thirteen! And, boy have we struck another pot of gold with this slab of brilliant long-lost, rare, and unreleased hard rock, heavy psych, and proto-metal tracks from the 60s-70s. The crate-digging mining expeditions keeps on giving with more and more incredible discoveries every time we go back for more. Like we’ve done throughout this series, all of these tracks were painstakingly licensed legitimately and the artists were paid. Make yourself comfortable and prepare for yet another deep, deep dive into the treasure trove of dank, subterranean, wild-eyed and hairy rock ’n’ roll of yesteryear.

Max, from Montreal, QC — originally known as Dawn, before Tony Orlando & Dawn forced a name change — kick things off with “Run Run” from their lone 1970 single. It’s a hard-hitting rocker with scale climbing crunching guitars and powerful Bonham-esque drumming. Sadly, the band didn’t last long due to poor management and various other factors, so this is the only surviving document according to guitarist Gerry Markman. And what a document it is, paired with the A-side “The Flying Dutchman.”

You might remember Ralph Williams and the Wright Brothers from their track “Never Again” on Brown Acid: The Tenth Trip. Here they make their return to the series with the A-side of their 1972 Hour Glass Records 45, which sounds like Blue Cheer mangling Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman” (that’s right, several years before Van Halen actually did so.) Alas, Ralph and these Wright Brothers soon disappeared from terrestrial airspace.

“Feelin’ Dead” is extremely heavy blues from this also extremely rare 1974 single by Detroit, MI’s Master Danse, which was only released as a promo 45. Think Led Zeppelin’s “Since I’ve Been Loving You” and you’re on the right track. A little dose of Hendrix acid blues and a heartfelt groove, and you’ll wonder why this single never even made it to official release. The unavoidable tell in the lyric, “help me get this damn thing out of my arm” hints at the post-Vietnam heroin epidemic as a potential clue why we never heard more from Master Danse.

Folks, Gary Del Vecchio is “Buzzin’” hard on this one, and from what sounds like an in-studio party of yelps and chatter at the start of the song, it seems that the whole band was in on the festivities. The funky blues riff, reminiscent of Led Zeppelin’s “Heartbreaker” and rollicking rhythmic changes certainly keep the buzz a rollin’.The recording is technically credited as Gary Del Vecchio with Max, though not the same band as the one that kicks off this Trip.

John Kitko’s 1973 heavy psychedelic rager “Indecision” is the only recording known to exist by the mysterious artist. The Twin Record Productions release features a different artist, Tom Poff on the B-side, which is truly a shame, considering the smoldering ashes Kitko leaves of the turntable by song’s end. It starts out more like a late 60s Acid Rock jam before leaping into a blazing double-time gallop, whipped into a frenzy by wailing, neck-pickup guitar squeals and Kitko’s barely audible howls.

Tampa, FL’s Bacchus made their Brown Aa huge sounding swinging rocker replete with roadhouse piano bolstering the chunky riffs and confident vocals. After relocating to Southern California a few years later, the band morphed into Fortress, an 80s melodic metal act whose Hands In The Till album of Pomp Rock on Atlantic Records still draws chatter today.

Orchid’s “Go Big Red” is perhaps the most garage-y sounding offering here, with loose rhythms and straightforward stop-and-start riffing. Nonetheless, the stomping energy and fried-amp guitar tone make this one a charming skull thwack. The band’s 1973 single on American records, backed with a cover of Johnny Russell and Voni Morrison’s “Act Naturally” (popularized by Buck Owens and the Buckaroos) is their only release, so the world never did see this Orchid fully blossom.
By the title alone of Dry Ice’s “Don’t Munkey with the Funky Skunky” you know you’re in for a good time. The 1974 barnstormer seems aimed to the novelty tunes crowd, with its kooky lyrics and silly-voiced spoken catchphrase break, “peeyew, you’ll be sorry if you do.” But, the Ohio band’s maniacal drumming, crunching guitars and, of course, drug euphemistic lyrics make it a shoo-in for the Brown Acid series of erudite rock’n’roll.
Good Humore’s swaggering 1976 rocker “Detroit” is a slick and smooth paen to the Motor City. It most likely doesn’t predate “Detroit Rock City” by Kiss, also released in 1976, and it has more rock’n’roll swing, but it could fit comfortably alongside the era’s arena anthems. Not much else is known about the one-off release on P.V. Records, but songwriter Mike Moats is noted to also have been a recording engineer in later years and this well produced track sounds like a labor of love.

About the Brown Acid series:
Some of the best thrills of the Internet music revolution is the ability to find extremely rare music with great ease. But even with such vast archives to draw from, quite a lot of great songs have gone undiscovered for nearly half a century -- particularly in genres that lacked hifalutin arty pretense. Previously, only the most extremely dedicated and passionate record collectors had the stamina and prowess to hunt down long forgotten wonders in dusty record bins -- often hoarding them in private collections, or selling at ridiculous collector's prices. Legendary compilations like Nuggets, Pebbles, ad nauseum, have exhausted the mines of early garage rock and proto-punk, keeping alive a large cross-section of underground ephemera. However, few have delved into and expertly archived the wealth of proto-metal, pre-stoner rock tracks collected on Brown Acid.

Lance Barresi, owner of L.A.-based Permanent Records and Permanent Records Roadhouse has shown incredible persistence in tracking down a stellar collection of rare singles from the 60s and 70s for the growing compilation series. Partnered with Daniel Hall of RidingEasy Records, the two have assembled a selection of songs that's hard to believe have remained unheard for so long.

"I essentially go through hell and high water just to find these records," Barresi says. "Once I find a record worthy of tracking, I begin the (sometimes) extremely arduous process of contacting the band members and encouraging them to take part. Daniel and I agree that licensing all the tracks we're using for Brown Acid is best for everyone involved," rather than simply bootlegging the tracks. When all of the bands and labels haven't existed for 30-40 years or more, tracking down the creators gives all of these tunes a real second chance at success.

"There's a long list of songs that we'd love to include," Barresi says. "But we just can't track the bands down. I like the idea that Brown Acid is getting so much attention, so people might reach out to us."

Brown Acid: The Thirteenth Trip will be available everywhere on LP, CD and download on October 31, 2021 via RidingEasy Records.

Running Wild want blood!

There are plenty of reasons why Rock’n’ Rolf Kasparek is so happy with BLOOD ON BLOOD. Says Rolf: “We all know the difficulties the cultural sector was faced with during the lockdown. On the other hand, it also gave me and many other artists some extra time since most releases had to be postponed. I used that time to fine-tune every little detail of my new material. The result is an album that in my opinion is probably the best in Running Wild`s career to date. Every one of the ten songs sounds exactly as I had it in mind when I composed it. I’ve never been happier with a Running Wild record before.” So, with no further details available at this point, fans of the German metal legend can look forward to 29 October 2021, when BLOOD ON BLOOD will be out on Steamhammer/SPV. Those who can’t wait should mark 13 August in their diaries, when the lead single ‘Diamonds And Pearls’ will arrive at the physical and digital stores, followed by the second single ‘The Shellback’ on 24 September 2021. Could there be any better news for Running Wild disciples?

Well, possibly the news below, which will also reveal some of the aforementioned details: Rolf justly describes BLOOD ON BLOOD as the most diverse offering he has released so far, not only in terms of the compositions but also as far as the production is concerned. “Every song has its own unmistakable sound,” explains the Running Wild captain. “Although I recorded the rhythm guitar parts with my 1976 Gibson Explorer as usual, the other parts were cut with a Gibson Flying V, a Fender Stratocaster and even – the undistorted parts – with a Fender American Standard Telecaster.” A prime example being ‘One Night, One Day’, which owes its great depth to its clean guitar performance. Rolf is referring to a song that is guaranteed to cause a stir with its anthemic direction and unusual arrangements: “For me, this track was a little experiment that I`ve never dared to try before, because ‘One Night, One Day’ doesn`t have the typical intro-verse-chorus structure, instead gradually building up throughout the song.”

The grooving ‘The Iron Times (1618 - 1648)’, a worthy album finale, is just as remarkable, with its eleven minutes of playing time the longest track on the disc, and thanks to its lyric about the Thirty Years’ War also one of the most ambitioned numbers. Speaking of lyrics: ‘Wings Of Fire’ and ‘Say Your Prayers’ are about prophecies, albeit not – as on many other releases – the prophecies of Nostradamus, but – among others – the prophecies of John of Jerusalem, the French Knight Templar and co-founder of the Order of the Knights Templar, who predicted organ trafficking back in the Middle Ages. Historically no less interesting, ‘Crossing The Blades’ sees Running Wild broach the story of the three musketeers from the 17th century, their emblem having been recreated on the cover artwork, once again designed by Jens Reinhold (Virgin Steele, Freedom Call, among others). Rolf: “It`s a kind of hybrid between the cross of the musketeers and our mascot, Adrian.”

Despite these lyrical ambitions, BLOOD ON BLOOD also features two “party rock numbers”, as Rolf likes to refer to them: ‘Wild & Free’ and ‘Wild, Wild Nights’, which are meant to be pure fun, fulfil their mission to a tee. And last but not least, there’s ‘The Shellback’, a track in typical Running Wild style that starts with a Celtic-inspired intro, Running Wild revisiting the atmospheric seafaring theme of their 1994 classic BLACK HAND IN, a prequel of that maritime story. Equally characteristic of the band, which, in addition to Rolf, guitarist Peter Jordan and bassist Ole Hempelmann, has since 2019 included drummer Michael Wolpers, who contributed all the drum parts on the new disc, are the lead single ‘Diamonds And Pearls’ (including lyric video) and the title track, incidentally the first number Rolf wrote for the new album.

Returning to the prophecy theme, you don`t have to be a prophet to be able to anticipate the gleam in the eyes of all Running Wild fans. There can be no doubt about it: BLOOD ON BLOOD presents Running Wild at their best!

Incoming ! The Shape

 Incoming!

The Shape

Formed in 2006 by multi-instrumentalists Brian Almeida and Christopher Carlino, The Shape has been a steady and popular live force in the Connecticut, New England, and East Coast music scenes; having toured & played over 600+ shows, recorded 6 albums and an EP in the band's 15-year existence.

Blending their mutual love of horror, human psychology, and philosophy with their passion for a wide variety of metal and dark rock influences, The Shape brings a unique and ever-evolving take on heavy music. Fusing thrash, melodic, death, and extreme metal with gritty hard rock, punk, gothic and atmospheric splashes, the band weaves a pastiche of unique authenticity to their sound; bucking repetition with each release.

Their debut album, "The Last Great Awakening" in 2009, garnered a small but faithful underground fanbase and critical goodwill with its combination of spacey stoner metal and alternative sounds.

Sophomore follow-up, "The Impurity (...Of Gods, Monsters, Heroes, and Villains)" took them into unchartered waters, blending technical melodic death metal with a deep emphasis on progressive elements. Despite the less commercial prospects of "The Impurity", the band relentlessly hit the road in support; playing over 300 shows between 2009 - 2013.

2014's "Masque of the Red Death" saw a major boost in popularity for The Shape, earning several independent awards for Metal and Rock Album of the Year in New England and "Hardest Working Band in CT". Released on Halloween night 2014 as direct support to The Misfits and Jasta, "Masque" became the band's staple record, with the band selling over 5,000 physical copies independently, launched by the single and video for "Burn Before Reading".

The Shape's breakthrough came with 2017's effort, "The World Away", landing at #1 on the Billboard Northeast album charts, #24 on the Hard Rock album chart, and #192 on the Billboard 200. Supported by steady radio play and tours, the album spawned the charting mainstream rock singles "The World Away" and "Where The Sun Sleeps", as well as heavy rotation in metal and college radio for fellow singles "The Devil In Your Eyes" and "Decimation".

2020 was a tumultuous year for all, with the band taking a live performance hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. During this time, and after a brief time period away from the band, Chris Carlino returned, creating two brand new efforts to be released in 2021 and 2022 respectively, that showcase the heaviest, darkest sides of The Shape's sound and message, and also their most pensive and versatile. With "The Age of Doom and Fear", the band needed to look no further than the real-life terrors of the world of 2020 and the beyond.

"The Age of Doom and Fear" is an emphatic musical analysis and statement of life as it is currently and the paths of horror and hope that may follow our choices. The Shape looks forward to mesmerizing live audiences again in 2021 with a brand new selection of sound and vision.

Brian Almeida

Brian Almeida is the co-founding songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist of The Shape. He is also a podcaster, screenwriter, oddities and occult enthusiast, horror aficionado, and pro wrestling and mixed martial arts enthusiast, and enjoys a good cigar and better whiskey.

Hailing from New Haven County, CT, Brian has been immersed in art and music his whole life. Son to life-long CT/NY radio DJ Gary Peters, and brother of NY independent theater and film actress, writer/director, Jes Almeida, Brian was playing drums and guitar by age 6 and working on horror films and writing music since his teenage years. Along the way, acquiring and lending bass, piano, keyboard, strings, percussion, banjo, and mandolin to his repertoire and The Shape recordings.

Inspired by a wide range of artists from Iron Maiden, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Rush, and Megadeth to Pink Floyd, Radiohead, The Pixies, The Cure, and Prince, he began writing songs and honing his craft as a songwriter. A love for extreme and technical heavy metal, gritty hard rock, punk, and classic and extreme horror cultivated a long-lasting partnership with co-founder Chris Carlino in the early 2000s, leading to the formation of what would eventually become The Shape in 2006.

Brian has been the constant in The Shape since day one and has taken the show on the road opening and supporting his idols and in the studio non-stop since. 15 years, 600 shows, an EP, and 4 albums later (with two more on the way), The Shape is ready to return reinvigorated from their Pandemic hiatus, refreshed and renewed.

Brian Almeida exclusively uses Shure Microphones, Jackson Guitars, Diezel Amplification, Ernie Ball strings, Dunlop picks, and EMG pickups.

Chris Carlino

After a brief live hiatus, Chris Carlino, co-founding member, has returned to The Shape. Hailing from Stratford, CT, Chris is a co-author of the majority of the songs in the band’s catalog and plays rhythm & lead guitar, while also providing alternate vocals.

Growing up listening to blues music formed his earliest inspiration for his love of guitar. Since starting the band in 2006, Chris has shared the stage with bands such as Shadows Fall, The Misfits, Flotsam and Jetsam, Enslaved, Dark Funeral, and countless others.

Heavily influenced by melodic death metal, and the fusion of blues and metal guitar, Chris exclusively plays Strandberg Guitars, Dunlap Jazz III Pitch Black picks, NYXL strings, Basiner Acme Vital Grip straps, and Diezel Amplification.

When his hands are not on a guitar, Chris is also a licensed mental health counselor, avid world traveler, and homebrewer of fine libations, and is very much looking forward to taking the show back on the road!

Jesse Neafsay

A monster of the low end, Jesse Neafsay has been playing bass for over 17 years. He exclusively uses Fender basses, Acoustic bass amps, DR strings, Darkglass, and boss pedals.

He was drawn to the bass after hearing Paul McCartney play on the Back in the US live album, Abbey Road and Sgt Peppers.

It wasn't until high school when he discovered his love for metal and progressive music; specifically influenced by Megadeth, Rush, Jethro Tull, Dream Theater, Annihilator, and High on Fire. More extreme genres such as deathcore and melodic death metal soon followed. All of these influences have given Jesse an appreciation for many styles of music to become an incredibly dynamic player.

Currently a member of CT death metal band Mortifica, Jesse has performed over the last decade in several eclectic projects such as Kings of Nothing (progressive blues/hard rock), Shadow Kingdom (traditional/thrash metal), and Soul Conversion (death metal). A longtime admirer, Jesse joined The Shape in 2020, bringing the perfect dynamic combo of aggression, groove, and articulate melody to the band.

Jason Northrop

Having studied under the tutelage of Alice Cooper's Glen Sobel, Jay has vast live experience across the United States supporting Lynch Mob, Kamelot, Epica, Moonspell, Dragonforce, Between The Buried and Me, Amorphis, The X's, Strapping Young Lad, Joey Belladona of Anthrax, Slunt, Enuff Z' Nuff, Living Colour, Kofi Baker, Flotsam and Jetsam, and Angel Vivaldi among countless others.

With a wide palette of influences across the musical spectrum, Jay has two decades worth of experience playing blues, jazz, pop, alternative, rock, world, progressive music, and all forms of traditional and extreme metal through his past live and studio projects all over the United States across his two decades of active playing. These projects include The Storm Front, Mandragora, Metadox, Tyrant, Kross, Old Boreas, The Autumn, Margene Without Borders, Very Heavy Rainbow, Circadian Rhythm, Chalice, Hounds of Justice, Sinaro, Khasm, Wild America, and Murray The Wheel as a live/session player and full-time member. Jay has extensive recorded projects under his belt, having worked with the likes of Mike Viscera of Loudness, Obsession, and Animetal, and Nick Bellmore of Dee Snider, Jasta, Toxic Holocaust, Kingdom of Sorrow, Kings and Liars.

When not recording or playing shows, Jay builds all things stages for live events, is a staunch 4/20 advocate, and an avid bone and skull collector, both human and animal. A long-time friend and fan of the band, Jason Northrop is the perfect fit for the macabre sound and style of The Shape.

Alicia Marinelli

Alicia Marinelli is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist from Providence, RI. Growing up, Alicia was greatly influenced by her grandmother's musical talents as a pianist and accordion player. By age 6, Alicia was already singing and playing piano in hopes to write and perform music on stage. At age 12, she began to play the guitar and never look back; playing at least 5 hours a day before the age of 13 to hone her craft. Inspired by the likes of guitar idols, the late Randy Rhodes (Ozzy Osbourne/Quiet Riot), Oli Herbert (All That Remains), and Dimebag Darrell, Alicia crafted her own unique style of heavy melodic playing, blending a wide variety of musical styles.

By 2011, Alicia had performed in For Solace, before creating her own band, Shred of Salvation; playing hundreds of shows across the East Coast over the last decade with Shadows Fall, Diecast, Spineshank, Revocation, and even performing on stage with Gary Cherone of Extreme and Van Halen and Barry Goodreau of Boston. Alicia has further expanded her horizons in mid-2020 joining The Shape as guitarist and co-vocalist in their 15th anniversary year in support of their upcoming releases!

Says the Wreck’s frontman, Robert Jon Burrison, “Our latest single, Everyday’ is an all-out good-time jam track that was born out of frustration due to lack of freedoms that we had grown used to pre-pandemic and were subsequently denied during lockdown. It’s about the desire to get together with friends, play music, have some beers, and just spend time with each other in person again. This track is one to be listened to on repeat and sung along to!”
